What should I expect during newborn care visits?
Your baby’s first newborn care visit may be in the hospital soon after birth. A provider evaluates their overall health, weighs them, measures their length and head circumference, and screens your baby for illnesses and diseases. They also offer a hepatitis B vaccination, a vitamin K shot, antibiotic eye drops, and a hearing screening. Subsequent newborn care visits at Smart Care Pediatrics include evaluating your child’s weight, growth, and development. Our providers offer additional vaccinations, check your child’s vital signs, complete a physical exam, and address concerns or questions you may have. They offer advice about breastfeeding, nutrition, sleep, and healthy habits. If your baby needs treatment for an illness, injury, or disease or requires care from a pediatric specialist, our providers at Smart Care Pediatrics are here for you every step of the way to ensure the best possible outcome.
When should I schedule newborn care appointments?
Our providers like to see your newborn soon after birth, when they are 3-5 days old, and at 2 weeks of age, 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months of age. Call our office if your baby develops new or unusual symptoms or if you have concerns or questions about their health, wellness, growth, or developmental milestones.
