What are common mental health treatments?

Based on the type of mental health condition your child has or is at risk for, their Smart Care Pediatrics provider might recommend:

Lifestyle changes

Eating nutritious foods, reducing stressors, taking dietary supplements if needed, and getting regular exercise and plenty of sleep may reduce your child’s risk of a mental health condition or help treat it. Having a strong social support network in place is also beneficial.

Medications

Your child’s specialist could recommend they take medications to ease symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, or other mental health challenges.

Counseling

The providers at Smart Care Pediatrics may offer counseling to help your child better cope with a mental health challenge and teach them effective behavioral-change strategies. To have your child evaluated for a mental health condition, call the Smart Care Pediatrics office or use the online booking tab today.

How does my child’s provider diagnose mental health disorders?

To find out if your child has a mental health condition, our providers at Smart Care Pediatrics review their lifestyle habits, symptoms, medical history, and medication regimen. They complete a physical exam, may recommend blood tests or other diagnostic tests, and evaluate your child’s mood, thoughts, and behavior patterns during a comprehensive psychiatric assessment (a series of questions).
